This is Windows, painted by Robert Delaunay in Paris in nineteen twelve, in oil and wax. Almost nothing is left of the subject. Delaunay called this way of working simultaneity — colours placed side by side so that the contrast between them, rather than any drawn edge, does the work of composition.
