This is Jacob Epstein's bronze head of Paul Robeson, modelled in nineteen twenty-eight, when Robeson was in London performing in Show Boat. It was given by Fania Marinoff Van Vechten in memory of her husband Carl, the photographer and writer who was a friend to both men.
