Bicycle Wheel

Marcel Duchamp · New York, 1951 (third version, after lost original of 1913)

This is Bicycle Wheel — a wheel mounted on a painted stool. It is a replica: the nineteen thirteen original was lost, and Duchamp did not mind in the least, since on his account the idea and not the object was the art.
