This is The Subway — a painting by the Mexican artist José Clemente Orozco, nineteen twenty-eight. The piece is oil on canvas, about 41 by 56 centimeters. It is among the darkest surfaces here: measured across the whole picture it gives back very little light. You can pick out the train.
