This one's called Painting — a painting by the French artist Pierre Soulages, August first, nineteen fifty-six. It's oil on canvas, about 1.5 by 1.9 meters. It is among the darkest surfaces here: measured across the whole picture it gives back very little light. Soulages was part of the Informalism movement.
