Before you is Painterly Architectonic — a painting by the Russian artist Liubov Popova, nineteen seventeen. Popova was part of the Constructivism movement. Oil on canvas — pigment ground into a slow-drying oil, which is what lets a painter go back into wet paint for days. In the picture, look for the abstract shapes.
