This is Spatial Construction number 12, made by Aleksandr Rodchenko around nineteen twenty — concentric shapes cut from a single sheet of plywood, then opened out and hung so they hold themselves apart in the air. Collapse it and it goes flat again. He made a whole series on that principle.
