You're looking at Shrine (White), assembled by Agosto Machado in two thousand twenty-two. Read the list of what it is made of and you have the work: jewelry and pins, postcards and photographs, a paper mask, a protest sign, and memorial-service cards and programs. Machado has been part of downtown New York's queer performance world since before Stonewall. This is what is left of the people in it — kept, pinned up, and made into an altar.
