This is Plate — a design object by the Japanese artist Kitaoji Rosanjin, nineteen fifty-three. Rosanjin was part of the Momoyama Culture movement. The piece is unglazed bizen-ware, about 5 by 46 centimeters. It is an odd shape for a picture: about 0.5 metres one way and 0.1 the other, so it reads as a band rather than a window.
