This is Madame Kupka among Verticals, painted by František Kupka between nineteen ten and nineteen eleven. Kupka was among the very first European painters to abandon the subject entirely. His wife Eugénie sits at the centre of a rhythm of verticals that is already closer to music than to portraiture.
