This is Guitar, made in Paris early in nineteen fourteen out of ferrous sheet metal and wire. Picasso's constructed guitars broke with carving and modelling entirely — he assembled sheet material into an open structure instead. It is one of the decisive moves toward modern sculpture as construction rather than carving.
