James Rosenquist · 1964-65

Before you is F-111 — a painting by James Rosenquist, nineteen sixty-four to nineteen sixty-five. Oil on canvas — pigment ground into a slow-drying oil, which is what lets a painter go back into wet paint for days. It is one of the largest things in this museum — about 283 times the area of a typical work here. Rosenquist was part of the pop art movement.
