Black Girl's Window

This is Black Girl's Window, made by Betye Saar in nineteen sixty-nine from an actual wooden window frame, with cut and pasted papers, a daguerreotype, a lenticular print and a plastic figurine set into its panes. Saar worked with found photographs and salvaged frames, assembling a family history out of other people's discarded objects.
